Power station plan prompts eight submissions for NSW government to review

New South Wales has been urged to review the planning decisions made by the State Government after eight organisations said the Government could not ensure all parts of the future power station were protected under international conventions on the protection of life and health.

In 2012, an international committee ruled that parts of the East West Link pipeline should not be built near the site of a historic fire in the town of West Gippsland.

The inquiry into East West Link recommended that a section of the pipeline should be removed.

The committee recommended that the eastern terminus of the pipeline should remain, as it is currently, and that all necessary precautions to ensure people's safety during an emergency be taken before a leak is detected.

A spokeswoman for the Bureau of Meteorology, said the current risk assessment for the East West Link project was completed.

"Our research shows the project poses the greatest long-term risk to the state," she said.

"The project will, for the most part, be under state control, therefore any changes to the project should be approved in the usual way by the NSW Government."

If this new analysis is approved, the Bureau of Meteorology would only be able to make further determinations about the project's impact.

Ms Goulburn said the impact of all the information included in the latest risk assessment report "hasn't been fully considered".

"In order to be a safe, reliable and reliable source of electricity NSW has to be committed to making sure the energy we consume is safe to consume under all environmental and legal regulations," she said.

"There is currently no information on this site or in all environmental and legal regulations.
